چکیده

In this paper we describe a novel approach, called improbability filtering, to rejecting false-positive observations from degrading the tracking performance of an Extended Kalman-Bucy fdter. False-positives, incorrect observations reported with a high confidence, are a form of non-Gaussian white noise and therefore degrade the tracking performance of an Extended Kalman-Bucy Filter. Improbability fdtering removes false-positives by rejecting low likelihood observations as determined by the model estimates. It offers a computationally fast and robust method for removing this form of white noise without the need for a more advanced filter. We describe an application of the improbability fdter approach to Extendend Kalman-Bucy filters for tracking ten robots and a ball moving at speeds approaching 5 ms” both accurately and reliably in real-time based on the observations of a single color camera. The environment is highly dynamic and non-linear, as exemplified by the motion of the ball which varies from free rolling under friction, to rolling up 45” inclined walls at the boundary, to being manipulated in unpredictable ways by a mechanical apparatus on each robot. The sensing apparatus, a camera and color blob tracking algorithms, suffers from the usual noise, latency, intermittency, as well as from false-positives caused by the misidentification of an observed object with a nonnegligible likelihood.

Multirobot Belief Fusion for Mapping and Tracking with Unreliable Sensors

We present an approach for mapping and tracking with multiple sensors that is robust to false-positives and falsenegatives. Sequential observations are first passed through the Improbability Filter to exclude false-positives, combined into a single joint observation, and finally fed to the Kalman filter to update the prior joint belief. Modifications to the Kalman update equations eliminate bia...

Step-up and step-down procedures controlling the number and proportion of false positives

In multiple hypotheses testing, it is important to control the probability of rejecting “true” null hypotheses. A standard procedure has been to control the family-wise error rate (FWER), the probability of rejecting at least one true null hypothesis. For large numbers of hypotheses, using FWER can result in very low power for testing single hypotheses. Recently, powerful multiple step FDR proc...

Face Detection Coupling Texture, Color and Depth Data

In this chapter, we propose an ensemble of face detectors for maximizing the number of true positives found by the system. Unfortunately, combining different face detectors increases both the number of true positives and false positives. To overcome this difficulty, several methods for reducing false positives are tested and proposed. The different filtering steps are based on the characteristi...

Classification with rejection: concepts and formal evaluations

Standard classification allocates all processed elements to given classes. Such type of classification assumes that there are only native and no foreign elements, i.e. all processed elements are included in given classes. The quality of standard classification can be measured by two factors: numbers of correctly and incorrectly classified elements, called True Positives and False Positives. Adm...

An Outlier Detection-Based Alert Reduction Model

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) are widely deployed with increasing of unauthorized activities and attacks. However they often overload security managers by triggering thousands of alerts per day. And up to 99% of these alerts are false positives (i.e. alerts that are triggered incorrectly by benign events). This makes it extremely difficult for managers to correctly analyze security state a...
